Thesis (Ed.D.)--New York University, 2004.
The purpose of this alternative Ed.D. project was to explore the process of developing a dance resource pack consisting of instructional dance materials that are accessible via the computer. These materials were based on (1) observance of a Kentucky Physical Education Teacher-of-the-Year as she taught dance, (2) her request for dance materials, and (3) the standards of the arts and humanities mandate cited in the 1990 Kentucky Educational Reform Act (KERA). Under KERA, physical educators were expected to teach children to create, perform, and respond to dance as an art form. Surveyed physical education teachers reported they had limited experience with dance as an art form and that current artist-in-residence and in-service programs were insufficient in meeting their dance education needs.

The developmental process of the project had three distinct stages, each with a focus toward obtaining different forms of information. The focus of the first stage was the collection of research materials, which became the foundation of the project framework. Stage two, creation of materials, focused on evaluating collected materials and developing a dance resource pack with a metacritique analysis of the process. The third stage consisted of discussion and conclusions to determine whether the process resulted in the development of a dance resource pack that would support "generalists" physical education teaching and simultaneously expand the dance repertoire in the physical education setting.
