The Cyborg Turn: Ontology, Computer Literacy, and the Future is a dissertation which explores the way that cyborg theory informs and is informed by educational practice. Its three central themes are the following: (1) We should consider ourselves cyborg and take social responsibility for and contribute publicly to our ontological evolution; (2) Computer literacy reflects the contemporary state of cyborg meaning-making, both as a systems-level phenomenon and as it pertains to individual agency in any system; and (3) Imagining the future enables us simultaneously to explore the social, cultural, political, and historical contexts of our cyborg ontology and to apply them to specific educational practices, like research and assessment.
