In examining the texts, I used sixteen categories to determine what the texts actually taught and what they failed to teach. The quantitative techniques used were based on the frequency of exposure to particular themes in the texts.

The study concluded that the educational system attempted to inculcate in the students to identify with and invest loyalty in the 'State.' In some respects the texts analyzed revealed an impressive amount of decolonization. They stressed the cultural glories of Nigeria prior to her colonization, passed lightly over the period of colonial rule, and focused more on the challenges and accomplishments of independent Nigeria.
