Thesis (M.S.)--California State University, Fullerton, 2004.
The recent history of the sampling and analysis of breath is reviewed. The composition of exhaled breath is examined with attention to the chemical origin of known breath components. Diseases and conditions that alter the concentration of breath components are considered. Methods of sampling and preconcentrating trace components for analysis are detailed. Analytical techniques for determining the identity and quantity of breath components are reviewed, especially those with medical significance. Finally, current and future breath based diagnostic applications are considered.
