Thesis (Ph.D.)--Walden University, 2005.
This descriptive correlational study evaluated employee satisfaction with computer-based training in occupational and environmental health in a chemical manufacturing company in southeastern Canada. The study was initiated after the researcher perceived dissatisfaction on the part of employees, a concern based on the associations found in literature between satisfaction, quality, and effectiveness of computer-based training. Employees (N = 239) responded to a self-administered survey questionnaire via the company's intranet. Astin's input-environment-output model was used as the conceptual framework to determine any relationships among program variables, employee characteristics, and levels of satisfaction.

Statistical analysis revealed that approximately 67% of the employees were satisfied or very satisfied with the training they were receiving. The study revealed that factors contributing to satisfaction included ease of access to the programs and the flexibility that has been created to schedule and complete training requirements. The results indicated that there were no relationships between the characteristics of the employees and satisfaction. Age and level of education did not influence levels of satisfaction. The survey results also did not support findings from literature that indicated positive relationships exist between more highly interactive training programs and satisfaction.

This study identifies the influence program variables and characteristics have on satisfaction with today's computer-based training programs. As technology advances, additional research will be required to assess its association with satisfaction.
