Thesis (M.A.)--California State University, Dominguez Hills, 2004.
This thesis examines changes in voice-over aesthetics in American war propaganda created during World War II and the Vietnam War. A description of the types of propaganda which utilized voice-overs produced during the two conflicts is provided, followed by a detailed examination of the voice-over aesthetics of thirty-two examples of the various propaganda types. An analysis of the changes in the aesthetics of the voice-overs is made, followed by discussion on the impact of voice-over styles on the audiences of the propaganda. A conclusion is made that aesthetic differences between the voice-overs in the war propaganda of the two conflicts exist, but that it is not possible to know the exact reasons the differences came to be. Research for the project was carried out primarily in Los Angeles and at the Library of Congress Recorded Sound and Motion Picture & Television Resource Reading Rooms in Washington, D.C.
