It is a well-known fact that children learn better when connections are made between disciplines. My creative curriculum project, which is an integrated and interdisciplinary music curriculum, was developed to explore this theory, and the question of whether or not it will be detrimental to the music program to teach music with this approach. The opening paper answers questions like, "Will this take away from the discipline of music?" "Will holding state standards for music suffer?" Following the paper are music lessons for grades kindergarten through six, connected to core subjects, demonstrating that music standards can be taught and learned well with an integrated, interdisciplinary curriculum without losing sight of the goals of the state standards for music.
