This study investigated the racial stereotypes of occupations by comparing the stereotype profiles of various racial and occupational categories. Based on theories and research findings from the social psychology and management literatures, it was hypothesized that the stereotypes of certain racial categories would be essentially similar to those of certain occupational categories. Similarities between the respective racial and occupational profiles support inferences concerning the racial stereotypes of occupations. The results of this study have implications for career advisement, management development, employee selection, and race relations in general.
