The purpose of this dissertation is to present a biblical basis for the assimilation of new Christians by which contemporary methods and materials can be evaluated. Using the primary sources of Paul and the secondary source of Acts, Part I outlines the Pauline paradigm focusing upon Paul's theology, methodology, and pedagogy. Chapter 1 investigates Paul's theological foundation for assimilation by focusing upon the "already---not yet" tension of his theology. Paul's theology is set forth as the foundational basis upon which his methodology and pedagogy develop. Chapter 2 explores Paul's methods for the assimilation of new Christians. Through methods directed toward the individual, local church, and ecclesiastical leadership, Paul serves as pastor and pioneer with an ongoing concern for the maturation of new Christians. Chapter 3 makes use of Paul's pedagogy for new believers to establish a paradigmatic model for the evaluation of modern curriculum.

Chapter 4 evaluates current trends in assimilation through the analysis of four popular models for new Christian assimilation. The primary sources and curriculum of these organizations are coupled with the secondary sources of books, articles, and online material published about them. Chapter 5 and the conclusion present the implications of this research for the church of the twenty-first century.
520 $a The dissertation concludes with the fact that high-assimilation churches will seek a balanced approach to assimilation. Theologically, the church will maintain a balanced emphasis upon salvation past, present, and future: the "already---not yet." Methodologically, the church will seek balance among large group, small group, and individual approaches to assimilation. Pedagogically, the church will maintain a balance in teaching, emphasizing the unity of the Godhead and church. Finally, the church will teach a balance between divine sovereignty and human responsibility. As discipleship becomes essential follow-through for evangelism and not merely an optional follow-up visit, the church will begin to see the impact of spiritual multiplication. This impact will not come from mere human achievement and diligence. The Holy Spirit will empower the work of discipleship completing the work He has begun.
