Thesis (M.A.)--California State University, Long Beach, 2002.
The increase in post-secondary institutions offering courses through the modality of distance education has been phenomenal. California State University, Long Beach (CSULB) has been part of this trend. The purpose of this study was two-fold: to determine the differences among CSULB students who elected to enroll in traditional classes delivered on campus by an on-site instructor and students who enrolled in a class with a distance education component, and to determine the students' perceptions regarding their experience and the conditions pertinent to their successful completion of the course. As expected, the results of the survey research indicated successful outcomes for students participating in both modalities of instruction. The study also helped identify areas for additional research.
