Thesis (M.A.L.S.)--State University of New York Empire State College, 2004.
This paper proposes that instructors in the college setting can adapt major principles of adult education to meet the needs of a changing student population. In order to service the needs of adult learners, instructors must be cognizant of influential concepts of adult education such as andragogy and self-directed learning. The evidence for this paper is derived from an analysis of pre-existing literature pertaining to adult education, pedagogy, psychology, and neuroscience. At the conclusion, the author provides a methodology that can be implemented to foster learning in adults enrolled in college and provides recommendations for the college as a whole.
