Polyoxometalates of a lacunary Dawson ion ( $\ alpha $- $\ rm P\sb2W\sb{17}O\sb{61}\sp{10-} $) , Finke ions ( $\ rm Zn\sb4(H\sb2O)\sb2(AsW\sb9O\sb{34})\sb2\sp{10-} $ and $\ rm WZn\sb3(H\sb2O)\sb2(ZnW\sb9O\sb{34})\sb2\sp{12-} $, a doubly condensed Dawson ion ( $\ rm P\sb4W\sb{30}Zn\sb4(H\sb2O)\sb2O\sb{112}\sp{16-} $) and macro inorganic polyoxocryptates ( $\ rm NaSb\sb9W\sb{21}O\sb{86}\sp{18-} $, $\ rm NaP\sb5W\sb{30}O\sb{110}\sp{14-} $ and $\ rm NaAs\sb4W\sb{40}O\sb{140}\sp{27-} $) also have been successfully pillared into Mg $\ sb3 $\ sb3 $\ sp{-} $ into the LDH gallery resulted in crystalline LDH-POM intercalates stable up to 250 $\ sp\circ $\ sim $4 .0 A of the LDH carbonate up to $\ sim $1 7 A. Gallery orientation of the POM intercalants were mainly determined by H-bonding interactions between the oxygen framework of the POM pillar and LDH layer hydroxyls. Nitrogen adsorption/desorption studies on the LDH intercalates showed that access to the gallery micropores was achieved upon POM pillaring.
