Participants had little knowledge about this issue. The results from this study indicated that there were no differences among ethnic groups on knowledge of issues related to AIDS in the African American community. There were also no differences among the age groups. The participants had similar levels of knowledge of AIDS within the African American community regardless of their gender or MSW concentration. For type of first year placement, there were no differences on the knowledge of AIDS instrument. There was also no difference on the knowledge of AIDS score by type of placement during second year of internship as well. Most students did not obtain knowledge in MSW classes, but the level of knowledge they did have they learned through work or personal experience. When the participants were asked if they believed the issues of the AIDS crisis in the African American community should be incorporated in the MSW curriculum, the majority indicated that these issues should be included.
