Eight participants of the group 104 Steps, 11 Flights were interviewed and Grounded Theory Methodology was utilised resulting in the research findings that the majority of the participants did indeed consider themselves dancers despite for most of the dancers, a lack of previous formal dance training. The participants discussed many of the ways that dancing and being a member of the group enhanced their lives. The creation of a community was in fact one of the most important outcomes for the participants and the class became a place of fun, refuge and a source of support. The creative process undertaken in a supportive and safe setting with a diverse population was healing and empowering for the participants. While many of the participants initially started dancing as a physical outlet they found that the dance group became a part of their holistic wellness strategy. The drive to move, create, discover and express one's self is coupled with the drive to relate to other women resulting in a community of dancers that is 104 Steps, 11 Flights.
