Objective. This study examined the treatment outcomes of Short Term Inpatient Substance Abuse Rehabilitation in comparison to Detoxification. The hypothesis is that inpatient rehabilitation experience increases the likelihood of successful outcomes.

520 $a Objective. This study examined the treatment outcomes of Short Term Inpatient Substance Abuse Rehabilitation in comparison to Detoxification. The hypothesis is that inpatient rehabilitation experience increases the likelihood of successful outcomes.
520 $a Methods. Two years (2000--2001) of data were collected and examined. Detoxification and Rehabilitation patient outcomes were analyzed using the programs methods which excluded patients not completing their respective programs. In addition, a more critical analysis of outcomes including those leaving the program(s) unsuccessfully. Determinations of ongoing success were based on continuing participation in treatment following their inpatient experience.
520 $a Conclusion. These findings indicate that those suffering from addictions problems serious enough to warrant admission in an inpatient setting benefit from inpatient rehabilitation rather than detoxification only at a rate of between 11.1--15.4% depending on method of data analysis used. This benefit includes participation in ongoing treatment, a reduction in substance abuse and associated problems.
