Adolescent students sometimes struggle with the temptations to use drugs, and these at-risk behaviors can cause academic difficulties. The primary purpose of this study was to determine to what extent the implementation of social norms theory at a faith-based high school could reduce the misperceptions of students and decrease their at-risk behaviors associated with alcohol, tobacco, and marijuana consumption. A mixed-methodology approach was implemented. Baseline data was gathered. A ten-week social norming campaign was implemented which focused on the positive attitudes and behaviors that existed within the student body. A follow-up survey was administered to compare to the baseline data. Chi-Square analysis dealing specifically with personal attitudes and behaviors concerning tobacco, alcohol, and marijuana revealed no statistically significant changes as a result of the social norming campaign. A secondary analysis dealing specifically with the perceptions students have of other students' attitudes and behaviors concerning these three drugs did provide some statistically significant results. Perceptions of other students' tobacco and marijuana attitudes and usage changed dramatically as a result of the social norming campaign.
