The water quality of Trout Creek, South Lake Tahoe, California, was monitored to ascertain the stream system's response to restoration. The restoration of Trout Creek was completed in August 2001. The sediment and nutrients in the surface water, groundwater, and soils were studied between August 2000 and August 2002. Linear relationships exist between turbidity, suspended sediment, nitrogen and phosphorous. Therefore, the application of turbidimeters is a cost-effective surrogate for measuring suspended sediment and nutrients continuously and in real time. This study is a principal endeavor in the Tahoe Basin to conduct a systematic evaluation of sediment and nutrient flux in surface water and ground water pre and post restoration.
