The Project Demonstrating Excellence includes a manuscript which weaves the threads into a social action fabric featuring an intercultural and international thrust, a physical and mental health dimension, and a prospectus for enabling Native Americans to solve some of their most serious social, economic and political problems. It also includes two books of poetry, one published and the other to be published in 1989, as well as stories which relate tales of our heritage; these writings illustrate materials which have already been used in Indian educational circles and are planned for further use.

The PDE also consists of two tapes, one video and one audio. These tapes, which she conceived and developed, were produced for use in nationwide network television and radio by the Canadian Broadcasting Company.

Appendix materials are important illustrations of how one Native American woman's life and work is of a single intent; namely, to improve the physical, social and spiritual condition of her people. It also proves how a single-minded purpose, enriched by knowledge, travel and contact with Native American leaders, has made and will continue to make an impact.

At the heart of this work is the author's spiritual quality reflected in writing poetry or folk tales used in her center and Indian schools as well as her insight into Helen Keller's enormous courage to go on in spite of seemingly insurmountable odds. The entire work is autobiographical, but Chapter II telescopes that life history.

While supported by Native American scholarship and her contact with Native Americans throughout North America, her documents are essentially inspirational and should serve her people as practically as the herbs from the center. Her sunny optimism midst the continuing darkness of government policies and the threat of genocide can serve as a role model for emerging leaders.
