One hundred twenty-eight students and twenty-three teachers provided data through the use of a questionnaire. The students in the study consisted of 10th, 11th, and 12th graders from a school population of approximately two thousand. Three of the students in the survey were White; the remaining members consisted of African-Americans and Hispanics. Only teachers instructing required courses were given questionnaires, twenty-three teachers responded. Of those responding, five were African-Americans, one was Hispanic and seventeen were Whites.

Analysis of data concluded that a major demographic shift occurred from the mid-seventies to the present. That is, the student population shifted from 75% White to 73% African-American. The study also revealed that the educative process is greatly complicated for the child whose home is characterized by poverty. In addition, it was found that standardized test scores, operating cost per pupil and teacher expectations of their students' performance declined. Finally, it was discovered that teachers had little time to incorporate multicultural activities into the curriculum and did not devote enough attention to the students' cultural heritages.
