The current study examined adolescent delinquency in relation to minorities and family perceptions of delinquency services. Using the Jesness inventory, personality traits related to delinquency were investigated amongst private school and detention center adolescents in one south Florida district. Family perception of available services were investigated though a qualitative survey.

520 $a Correlational analyses were conducted to examine the relationships between delinquency subscale traits and adolescents level of encounter in the juvenile justice system. Moreover, analyses examined relations between the Jesness identified subscale personality trait and value orientation scores. Statistically significant relationship was found between Jesness traits and value orientation scale in the private school and detention center. Representation of black Americans in the juvenile justice system was found to be significant and over represented.{09}Statistical significance at .02 level was found for delinquency traits and encounters with the juvenile justice system. Qualitative data revealed parental perception of need for more specific delinquency services.
