Method. A static group comparison was utilized between 30 identified pathological gamblers and 30 non-pathological gamblers who had met qualifying criteria. Subjects were administered a demographic and gambling history questionnaire, the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI), the Adjective Check List (ACL), and the Revised Rydell-Rosen Ambiguity Tolerance Scale (AT-20). Frequencies, percentages, and Chi-squares were performed on the questionnaire data. Central tendencies were assessed and discriminant analysis was performed on the complete scores/scales of the test instruments.

Results. The first hypothesis, which predicted a significant difference between pathological and non-pathological gamblers' MMPI Scale 2 scores, was supported. The second hypothesis, which predicted a significant difference between pathological and non-pathological gamblers' MMPI Scale 4 scores, was also supported. The third hypothesis, which predicted a significant difference between pathological and non-pathological gamblers' ACL Exhibitionism scale scores, was not supported. The fourth hypothesis, which predicted a significant difference between pathological and non-pathological gambler's ACL Aggression scale scores, was not supported. The fifth hypothesis, which predicted a significant difference between pathological and non-pathological gamblers' tolerance of ambiguity scores on the AT-20, was supported. The discriminant analysis performed on the test instruments to assess the degree of distinctive prediction was not significant.
