The purposes of this study were to determine women's perceptions and attitudes toward menopause, and to describe what factors influenced their decision to use or not use hormone replacement therapy. A convenience sample of 62 women answered questions on The Women's Hormone Decisions Assessment Survey. This survey addressed factors that influenced women's decision to use HRT such as people, global symptoms, risk of disease, fear of disease, and satisfaction with HRT use. Data were analyzed using the SPSS software. Results indicated that physicians and brochures were the most influential in the formation of women's attitudes toward menopause and that they were negatively influenced by bothersome menopausal symptoms. Women felt at most risk for health conditions such as heart disease, hypertension, diabetes and depression. They indicated osteoporosis was the most significant risk factor and the most feared health condition that influenced their decision to use HRT. Participants also indicated satisfaction with their menopausal treatments.
