This research study investigated the perceptions of learning on the part of Vancouver Art Gallery Public Programs staff during regular meetings (content meetings) that discussed readings and concepts related to current theories in critical inquiry and cultural studies. Phase Two of the research queried a sample of museum educators from different regions in Canada regarding whether they would be interested in participating in an online community of practice based on critical inquiry.

The research found that the content meetings provided valuable informal learning opportunities for Vancouver Art Gallery Public Programs staff, and that the meetings changed how they approached their practice in terms of providing new strategies or back of mind tools for engaging the public. The research further found that moving the content meetings online would be of interest to some museum educators, particularly when combined with face to face themed meetings or symposia.
