Thesis (M.A.)--Royal Roads University (Canada), 2007.
While snowmobiling occurs in other national parks in Canada, it is localized and limited to access through park lands, along boundary lines, or for the purposes of traditional resource harvesting. The level of recreational snowmobiling that presently occurs in Gros Morne National Park of Canada and that is proposed within the Public and Commercial Snowmobile Management Plan (PCSMP) is unique in Canada. Through a cooperative management planning process, Parks Canada realizes that protecting traditional land-use values is imperative to maintaining community dialogue that respects and preserves our cultural heritage. The purpose of this research is to investigate the meanings of the snowmobiling experience to snowmobilers in Gros Morne National Park. This research will inform the development of an interpretive program, which will promote responsible behaviours; increase understanding of potential impacts and contribute to a quality visitor experience that is reflected in the natural values of Gros Morne National Park.
