This study was undertaken to learn about the experiences of varsity high school football players who have participated in a sport psychology, educational consultation modality. The educational component used was to teach the athletes how solution-focused theory can assist in further developing existing skills and in teaching new skills appropriate for managing performance in competition. This educational approach utilized solution-focused theory for the purpose of allowing the athlete participants to experience this particular model naturally, as it unfolded during group presentations and informal, brief contacts. Data was gathered through the use of interviews, observations, and journal entries. The research model used was phenomenological, in which finding an understanding of the experiences of solution-focused theory was at the forefront. There were six participants targeted to take part in this study, where the primary investigator interviewed each participant, once formally, through open-ended interviews. They then were asked to describe their experiences that occurred with the solution-focused model over those past 6 weeks, retrieving the data through that one interview.
