This dissertation was designed to search for grief assessments; to provide researchers, clinicians, and students with a compendium of instruments that can be used in research and in clinical practice. Three objectives were met: (1) locate grief measures; (2) review for key constructs; and (3) find how well cited the instruments were. After a review of the literature, 63 grief instruments and five grief-related instruments were discovered. Each was described in a synopsis, and was then examined to create a list of key terms that would assist in the selection of an appropriate instrument. Citing articles were then searched to determine the scope of grief research. A summary is provided and future recommendations are made.
