The overall results of the study provide support for past findings that youth sports participation is negatively associated with delinquent behavior. The major implication from the study was that certain types of sport participation might be useful in working with young African-American athletes, especially if sport participation is in conjunction with youth development programs that emphasize: Africultural spirituality/identity, self-esteem enhancement, and educational/vocational professional advancement instruction.

Additionally, data suggest that study youth who participated in sports for longer periods of time engaged in fewer delinquent acts such as theft and substance use. In sum, the findings revealed that the African-American church can use sports integrated with comprehensive culturally appropriate programs in deterring juvenile crime and providing educational assets for participants.
