Community colleges have a negative image and are viewed as "less-than" four-year colleges or universities. The goal of this project is to enhance the image of community colleges, specifically those in California. This project is composed of two parts: a paper and a graphic design campaign. The paper describes the demographics of community college students, both nationwide and in California. It also explores how the media portrays community colleges and what some organizations are doing to combat negative publicity. Public relations theories and how they apply to this campaign are examined as well. The graphic design campaign consists of one large format poster, two smaller posters, and a multi-page brochure. The posters and brochure are thematically linked and designed to attract students to attend community colleges. Recommendations on further research and future ways to enhance the community college image are offered.
