Thesis (Ph.D.)--Capella University, 2005.
Professionals are recognized by many of the titles that they have earned. Some examples include Doctor, Reverend, and Esquire. The law, medicine, and the clergy have carried these titles since the Middle Ages as respected professionals. The lawyer and doctor have received in-depth training. The clergy are trained in theology but must also run the church as a small business. The other professions may or may not have to run an organization. The clergy's training in managerial skills is almost non-existent. While they might be good preachers and pastors, in order to succeed in their place of activity is dependent on their efficient running of the organization. The basic training they have received derives from their under-graduate and post-graduate education. If the training is missing, then this group of professionals is inadequately prepared to serve society. The Church of the Nazarene is one denomination among many different churches that share a similar problem, and is looking to find methodologies to improve their effectiveness in fulfilling their mission and the areas of concern to them. This study hopes to add research to further the knowledge needed to solve this issue.
