My practicum was with the Human Resources Department (HRD) of Queens Health Network (QHN), located in the Jamaica area of Queens, New York. QHN is part of the New York City Health and Hospital Corporation (HHC). The corporation consists of eleven acute care hospitals including Queens Hospital Center and Elmhurst Hospital Center these were the focus of my practicum. It was performed during February to April 2005 and consisted of over 240 hours of labor, which were distributed among the various divisions of the human resources department. My practicum supervisor was Ronald Edwards, who has a B.Sc. in Political Science and fifteen years human resources experience and is the functioning director of the department. My assignment differed each week and I kept a daily journal of my assignments, activities and reflections for future reference. In preparation for this practicum, I read about employee retention, labor relations, communication, and issues relating to the staffing of an organization.
