Ovarian cancer is the fifth leading cause of cancer deaths among American women. Research reports that 90% of women with ovarian cancer reported having symptoms long before a diagnosis was made. Literature shows that women should be educated regarding their personal risk factors and the signs and symptoms of this devastating cancer. This study used a survey to evaluate the reported level of awareness these women have regarding the signs, symptoms, risk and protective factors of ovarian cancer. One hundred and forty eight women responded by completing and returning the survey. They answered twenty-five questions related to ovarian cancer awareness. Descriptive analysis was done using frequency counts. These findings will be used to a develop health education program for this population on ovarian cancer awareness.
