Many mental health practitioners provide treatment focused almost exclusively on the negative aspects of their client's life, and see spirituality as a sign of illness. This view of faith and mental health is in contrast with evolving research which suggests that religiosity enhances psychological well-being. Segments of the general population, such as college students, have an elevated risk for the growing problem of depression. This study examined the relationships between spirituality, gender, ethnicity, and depression among a sample population of college students (n = 121). While correlational analyses did not establish a statistically significant relationship between spirituality and depression, the data plainly underscore the concerning rate of depression in this population, and the relevance of spirituality for undergraduate college students.
