Thesis (M.F.A.)--The University of Kansas, 2006.

This thesis highlights my personal ceramic research into complex high fire and atmospheric glazes, historical vessels of Asia, and personal expression in the generation of a mature body of ceramic forms. My personal investigation and exploration of multi-fired and multi-glazed ceramic objects requires a deep understanding of glaze formulation and mass material testing. This exploration of materials results in a unique, innovative, and dynamic glaze palette. Most all clays and glazes utilized are of my formulation and design, and are fired in gas, wood, electric, and salt kilns. Apart from technical endeavors, the work challenges current art trends for aesthetics of beauty, transcendentalism, and art experiences with intimate ceramic objects. The work demonstrates the ability to communicate Zen beauty; however, the goal of impacting contemporary opinions and art trends remains to be witnessed.
