Thesis (M.S.)--The University of Kansas, 2005.
Oil recovery in near Minimum Miscibility Pressure gas injection was the subject in this thesis. Gas injection at pressure near MMP is called near-miscible injection. The focus of the study was to investigate the role of interfacial tension (IFT) on recovering oil at near-miscible CO2 injection. In addition, the relative importance of IFT and mass transfer in recovering oil at near-miscible injection was studied. For the purposes of this study, a series of simulations involving CO2 injection into a slimtube were conducted. Laboratory experiments of CO2 were also conducted to verify the simulations results. In the simulations, the Coats model of IFT-related relative permeability was used to implement the effect of IFT. The simulations were divided to two sets:

The first, Set A, investigates the effect of IFT in absence of mass transfer. This set used the equilibrated composition of CO2-C4-C 10 in simulations of displacement. The second, Set B, studied the effect of IFT in the presence of initial water saturation. Simulations of CO 2 injection into a slimtube had initial water saturation. (Abstract shortened by UMI.)
