It points out that Tzara never ceased to explore Dada's artistic innovations, which made him very unique among the surrealists.

The two subjects, closely linked in Tzara's works, are studied and cross-referenced in different parts of the thesis. The first part deals with humor and its manifestations through revolt and derision, and defines its function in the poet's writing. The second part explains how Tzara developed the children's ways of thinking and speaking into poetic techniques based on spontaneity, the destruction of communication, experimentation with nonsense, the importance of sensations, and an animistic relation with nature. The thesis reveals the poet's contribution to the modern representation of the child as elaborated by his contemporary, Jean Piaget.
