Thesis (M.S.N.)--Wilmington College Division of Nursing (Delaware), 2003.
Mindful of the current nursing faculty shortage in the United States, nursing leaders are called upon to recruit and retain competent persons to take up the call as nursing educators for future generations. Nurse educators have an obligation to mentor new faculty into schools of nursing in an attempt to welcome them into academia. The purpose of this teaching practicum was to foster confident teaching skills in a novice-nursing teacher through the art of mentoring and team teaching. Adult learning theory was the theoretical basis for this practicum. This educational undertaking is supported by a review of the relevant literature pertaining to the adult learning theory, mentoring, Patricia Benner's novice to expert theory, and the nursing faculty shortage.
