This study was conducted not only to compare breakfast consumption practices of adolescents by gender, race, and school grade, but also to determine if there are differences in BMI between students eating breakfast versus not eating breakfast, as well as students participating in School Breakfast Program versus students not participating. Participants included 90 seventh and eighth grade students from two predominantly low income schools in the Houston area. ANOVAs were utilized for data analysis with a significance level set at < .05. Results indicated that there was a significant difference in school breakfast participation by gender as males were more likely to eat school breakfast than females. However, there were no significant differences in participation by ethnicity, school grade, nor BMI. Furthermore, there were no significant differences in BMI between students eating breakfast versus students not eating breakfast, nor between students participating in the SBP versus students not participating.
