This collection of papers analyzes the politics of privacy in light of today's technology in the Information Age. First, the meaning of privacy and its history from a legal standpoint in American society are explored. Second, some of the powerful technology that is currently available to gather and share information about individuals is examined. An examination is made of the users of such technology, their purposes, and what threat---if any---they may pose to privacy rights. Third, three groups in society---civil liberties groups such as the American. Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), "patriot" groups such as the John Birch Society, and evangelical Christian groups anticipating the apocalypse---are investigated for their views on privacy, technology, and the role of government. From this investigation, some policy issues that must be addressed in dealing with the politics of privacy in the Information Age are discussed.
