Thesis (M.S.)--D'Youville College, 2005.
This qualitative, descriptive study described 5 nurses' perceptions of care in high risk antenatal nursing. Jean Watson's theory of nursing guided this research. After the proposal had been approved by the Institutional Review Board of D'Youville College, a convenience sample was recruited from nurses employed in the high risk antenatal unit of a large perinatal center in Southern Ontario. Data were collected during audiotaped, semistructured interviews following a guide developed by the researcher. Content analysis was used to examine the 5 nurses' responses to the questions on the guide. The themes derived from this process were interpreted to answer the study's research questions. This study validates Watson's 10 carative factors of caring and identified caring perceptions of nurses in high risk antenatal nursing.
