The purpose of this study was to explore with cancer survivors their experience of having a central line in place for chemotherapy. There is little in the literature on the experience of living with a central line for an extended period of time.

520 $a The purpose of this study was to explore with cancer survivors their experience of having a central line in place for chemotherapy. There is little in the literature on the experience of living with a central line for an extended period of time.
520 $a A qualitative descriptive design using interviews as the method was utilized for this study. Participants were individuals with cancer who had a central line implanted for at least thirty days and were currently receiving chemotherapy. Following content analysis of the narrative data, major categories identified were; overall positive experience, minor discomfort, and sharing and learning from others.
520 $a Findings have provided valuable insight that can assist others in living with a central line for chemotherapy. Findings may also direct health care providers care of their patients undergoing chemotherapy.
