In-depth interviews with three high school students were conducted and recorded. The study was conducted in a suburban school system in Georgia.

The students are considered academically successful by pursuing a college preparatory diploma and having a "B" average. They are low SES because their parents were either high school dropouts or only achieved a high school diploma. Also, the students' parents were either unemployed or worked in low skilled jobs.
