The purpose of this study was three fold: (1) To evaluate the effectiveness of Planned Experiences (PEs) in the community nutrition component of the Dietetic Internship program at California State University in Long Beach on the Dietetic Interns' (DIs) knowledge, critical analysis, problem solving, entry-level competency, and staff relief after training. (2) To determine the relationship between the DIs' experience and their personal assessment of their capacities, knowledge, and skills in the community nutrition practice area. (3) To evaluate the association between the DIs' and the Supervisory Registered Dietitians' (RDs) assessment of the DIs' community nutrition competency.

520 $a The finding suggested that the DIs learned how to perform the job and achieved the progression from dependence to independence to becoming a professional. The findings also suggested that self-evaluation and the supervisor evaluations assist the DIs in building confidence, developing skills, and increasing knowledge to become professionals.
