A great deal of research has been conducted to determine factors that influence the adoption of a specific technology. Numerous models have been developed and proposed to enhance the understanding of this issue. While we may use any of these models, the decomposed theory of planned behavior has attracted our attention. The decomposition approach adopted by the model provides a more complete set of antecedents that can better explain the intention to adopt a specific technology (i.e., Internet banking), thus enhancing the practical contributions of this study. We further extended the model by incorporating trust and examined its influence on an individual's intention to adopt the technology.

520 $a Subjects for this study were business school seniors and MBAs at four public universities in Malaysia. Structural equation modeling (SEM) was the main statistical technique utilized in this study. The study found that all main beliefs including the new construct (i.e., trust) were found to have significant effect on an individual's intention to use Internet banking. With reference to antecedents' effect on their main belief, only benevolence and competence were not significant.
520 $a Overall, the results indicate that the model provides a good understanding of factors that influence the intention to use Internet banking. Approximately 37% of the total variance on the behavioral intention was explained. As expected, decomposition of the main beliefs provides more specific factors that influence the behavior. Based on the findings, implications to practice and academic research were offered. Limitations of the study and future research were also discussed.
