A 91-question survey instrument that measured quality of life, humor styles, and collected demographic data was utilized for this study. The instrument was made available on the university web server and faculty members were sent an email inviting them to participate in the study. Data was collected through electronic means.

The population for this study was 639 (N = 639) faculty members at a mid-sized, mid-central U.S. university. The sample consisted of 262 (n = 262) faculty members who completed and submitted the instrument. Statistical analysis utilized descriptive, correlational, and one-way analysis of variance.

Statistical analysis revealed significant correlations between humor styles and both objective and subjective quality of life. Significant correlations were also found between humor styles and individual domains of quality of life. Significant differences were also found in perceived quality of life and humor styles based on discrete variables.

It was concluded that positive humor styles are associated with quality of life as well as specific domains that comprise quality of life. It was further concluded that differences in quality of life and humor styles exist as a result of a variety of factors.

Results are discussed and recommendations for future research, for the field of health education, and for university faculty are presented.
