Thesis (M.A.)--University of Nevada, Reno, 2005.
In the twenty-five years leading up to the First World War, Paris had transformed from a city known for political turmoil to a cultural center filled with cafes, cinemas, and lavish boulevards which gained the attention of the entire world. While writers from around the world journeyed to Paris to experience the Belle Epoque, many French authors became increasingly interested in the United States and her institutions. Writers from different professional and political backgrounds set out to examine and report on numerous aspects of American society such as industries, universities, women's organizations, and the working class. The substantial number of travel memoirs and journal articles about the United States published during the Belle Epoque indicated how writers from different background, though they held different perceptions, shared a growing fascination of American culture from 1889--1914.
