The objective of this thesis is to define what to teach young leaders in order to create a more sustainable and harmonic world through Outward Bound Ecuador programs. The research for this thesis included in depth interviews with 19 prominent leaders from different sectors: outdoor schools, business, leadership instructors and spiritual teachers. Participants were interviewed individually and in a focus group where five outdoor leaders participated. Both the interviews and the focus group had the same question structure. The transcripts were analyzed to identify themes. The cornerstone of the findings is the realization that leadership development is personal development, and personal development at its highest level is creating a deeper connection with the inner self in stillness. In addition, finding a higher purpose (who is my Self and what is my Work?), and learning to listen and communicate at a deeper level are tools of high value for future leaders. Results of the study were used to revise the Outward Bound Ecuador curriculum.
