With cyberspace and the Internet becoming society's newest medium of communication and information, we are at a defining era in contemporary culture. The internet has evolved from a basic learning tool into an information highway, bringing the world, literally, to one's fingertips. However, despite all the benefits the Internet has, there is a dark side as well, specifically, Internet child pornography and Internet luring. The purpose of this research is to contribute to the sociological understanding of Internet-related sex crimes involving children. The research consists of two phases: the first, a qualitative content analysis of the media of four (4) local and national newspapers. Second, experts in the field of Internet child pornography and Internet luring will be interviewed. The media analysis identifies themes that are used to build a picture of these crimes, followed by interviews with experts to see whether the themes emerging from the media align with the understandings of the issues according to the experts. The findings will address questions dealing with the media's representations of the issues and concerns related to children's use of and exposure to the Internet, as well as what the implications of this use may be.
