Thesis (M.S.W.)--California State University, Long Beach, 2010.
The purpose of this thesis project was to create a convenient and succinct curriculum to utilize as a continuing education tool for kindergarten-12 (K-12) public school teachers. The incorporation of teaching diversity-related issues has become one of the cornerstones of recent educational practices. Despite this, the inclusion of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT)-related material has been afforded minimal space. This curriculum strives to provide a foundation for K-12 public school teachers to become familiar with a handful of topics that are core issues in understanding the present-day concerns faced by LGBT-headed families. Participants will be exposed to the many forms of LGBT-headed families through small group discussion, large group discussion, and the viewing of three documentaries. Participants will complete four modules for this curriculum. In addition, participants will become familiar with LGBT-related key terms and provided with resource leads to utilize subsequent to participation in this curriculum.
