The College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba (the College) aims to deliver helpful resources and tools via its website to support Manitoba nurses in their practice. The College would like to increase the use of its web-based resources and tools but sometimes encounters challenges in this endeavour. This action research study explored whether or not applying concepts from diffusion of innovations theory (including recommendations from research about the innovation-decision process and perceived attributes of innovations) to a communication campaign about the College's website would influence Manitoba nurses to adopt the College's web-based resources and tools. Applying these diffusion theory concepts in a real-life setting garnered a response from Manitoba nurses but did not necessarily persuade them to fully adopt and implement the College's website suggesting that the application of diffusion of innovations theory should be approached more holistically.
