Thesis (Ed.D.)--St. John's University (New York), School of Education and Human Services, 2011.
The researcher presents census data for the Brooklyn Catholic Diocese, which are based on seven key demographic areas. Population, School Age Children, Ethnicity, Per Capita Income, Home Values, Education, and Occupation are identified and analyzed based on three levels of the Brooklyn Catholic Diocese. Maps and tables are presented based on 2009 and predicted 2014 census data for the individual parishes, clusters, and vicariates of the diocese. Three common trends are identified at local, state, and national levels. These three trends are When Less is More, When Old is Young, and When Minor is Major.

Through Strategic Planning, organizations such as the Brooklyn Catholic Diocese can be prepared to deal with demographic changes. Hines and Bishop (2006) present the six principles of Strategic Foresight: Framing, Scanning, Forecasting, Visioning, Planning, and Acting. These six principles are essential for an organization's success, especially when organizations have the opportunity to turn potential obstacles into achievements.

Hughes' model of the Five Cs (1998) was used in the analysis and presentation of the data. The Content within the Data Files included the Context of Population, Age, Ethnicity, Education, and Income. Thus parishes, clusters, and vicariates were compared and contrasted to form a Constructed Analysis that was based on present and future census data for the Brooklyn Catholic Diocese. In addition, Hughes' (2006) Descriptive, Comparative, Summative Model assisted in presenting the data at all three levels: Individual, Clusters, and Vicariates.

Findings based on the major demographic areas for the Brooklyn Catholic Diocese were identified and examined. Recommendations were made based on the findings and the analysis of the maps and tables which were presented in this study. Data for the Brooklyn Catholic Diocese showed that the findings for demographic changes supported local, state, and national trends that are likely to occur over the next few years. Based on this study, recommendations were made to address changes involving the key demographic factors and three major trends. Such recommendations can be also be useful for schools and organizations which are in the midst or are projected to experience similar demographic change.
